ISNA Welcomes New Communications Director, Edgar Hopida
December 5, 2013-We are excited to welcome Edgar Hopida as our new Communications Director. As part of ISNA’s staff, he will be bringing over seven years of public relations and communications experience to the organization.
He has been instrumental in the founding and development of the San Diego Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-San Diego) and has served as its Director of Public Relations and Interim Executive Director. Edgar has appeared in several San Diego and national media programs and has regularly written for a number of San Diego newspapers on American Muslim issues, successfully publishing over a dozen opinion editorials and letters to the editor. He has also conducted several trainings and seminars with government, education, health agencies, and has been invited to speak at various venues.
“As the perception of American Muslims and Islam continues to change within our society, I look forward to joining ISNA’s efforts in communicating a better understanding of our faith and community in a post-9/11 environment,” said Edgar Hopida.
“ISNA is aspiring to new heights in its service to the Muslim American community and society at large,” said Dr. Iqbal Unus, Interim Secretary General. “Br. Edgar Hopida will certainly enhance our capacity to hear and be heard,” he added.
The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) is the largest and oldest Islamic umbrella organization in North America. Its mission is to foster the development of the Muslim community, interfaith relations, civic engagement, and better understanding of Islam.
