ISNA Outraged by the False Accusations Made During Thursday’s Congressional Hearing and Grateful to Congressman Keith Ellison for His Remarks

(Plainfield, IN 9/23/16) – The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) is outraged by the widely debunked and false accusations about ISNA raised by some Congressmen during Thursday’s Department of Homeland Security’s Oversight and Management Efficiency Subcommittee Hearing on “Radical Islamist Terror.”

SEE:  Recording of the “Identifying the Enemy: Radical Islamist Terror” hearing and Transcripts of Statements ISNA is grateful to Congressman Keith Ellison for specifically addressing the comments about ISNA. He pointed out that anti-Muslim rhetoric and false accusations of the Muslim community do not benefit the United States, instead they feed into and support the ISIS recruitment narrative. He also pointed out that the debunked “unindicted co-conspirator” designation cannot be used to bar ISNA from applying for grants. He reminded the committee of a bill of attainder which makes the barring of an unindicted organization such as ISNA from applying for a grant unconstitutional. In a statement, ISNA President Azhar Azeez said: “We thank Congressman Keith Ellison for his remarks in Thursday’s hearings. We appreciate his support and his efforts to clarify statements made about ISNA.” ACTION ALERT: Please send a note of gratitude to Congressman Ellison thanking him for his support of ISNA. Click here to contact Congressman Ellison. The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) is the largest and oldest Islamic umbrella organization in North America. Its mission is to foster the development of the Muslim community, interfaith relations, civic engagement, and better understanding of Islam. – END – CONTACT: Faryal M.
