ISNA Joins Faith Leaders in Signing COP 22 Interfaith Climate Change Statement

(Plainfield, IN 11/8/16) The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) was proud to have been an important part of the organizing of the Marrakech Conference back in April of this year at which several scholars and Muslim leaders from around the globe affirmed the message of the the Prophet Muhammed’s Medina (Charter) as a model and basis for inter-faith cooperation common action as we strive for a better and more fair and just world.

ISNA also has a proud tradition of partnering with other national faith communities on issues and causes of justice including the Shoulder To Shoulder Campaign and most recently joining national and world faith leaders in signing the COP 22 Interfaith Climate Change Statement to be presented in Marrakech this week.

In a statement, ISNA President Azhar Azeez said: “According to Islam’s most basic and fundamental teachings, human beings have been uniquely charged with the great responsibility of being Guardians and Caretakers of the Earth. It goes against our overall service based mission to invest in fossil fuel companies whose operations and products cause such grave harm to humanity and to creation and ISNA commits to this cause.”

The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) is the largest and oldest Islamic umbrella organization in North America. Its mission is to foster the development of the Muslim community, interfaith relations, civic engagement, and better understanding of Islam.
