ISNA and MMCC Host Convention Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon in Michigan
(Plainfield, IN 9/30/14) Over the weekend, the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), the Michigan Muslim Community Council (MMCC), and the ISNA Convention Steering Committee hosted the volunteers of ISNA's 51st Annual Convention at Three Cedars Farm in Detroit, Michigan.
Ahmed El Hattab, Executive Director of ISNA's Development Foundation and Wendy Bernard, Registration and Housing Coordinator, represented the ISNA staff and its appreciation of the Detroit community's work at the event. MMCC was represented by Board Chairman Dr. Muzammil Ahmed, Executive Director Dawud Zwink, and Outreach Director Amina Iqbal.
Irfan Shuttari, co-chair of the the Convention Steering Committee, welcomed the volunteers and thanked them for their dedication to a successful event. He then introduced Ahmed El Hattab, who spoke about the importance of appreciation in Islam.
"The Prophet (salla llahu alayhi wa sallam) said 'He who does not thank people, does not thank Allah'" Ahmed El Hattab said. He further elaborated that this is only the beginning of ISNA's relationship with the Detroit community. "We hope to continue to build our ties by building a dynamic Muslim community in Detroit and in America," he said.
As a symbol of recognition for the volunteers' contribution and achievement, all participants were also issued a certificate of appreciation. With President Jimmy Carter as a special guest at the convention, all committee chairs were also given a signed copy of his book, A Call to Action.
Recognizing the work of all participants of the convention is an ISNA tradition, dating back to the practice of its founding members. It was an honor to continue this practice with the Detroit community and we hope to continue to work with its members.
The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) is the largest and oldest Islamic umbrella organization in North America. Its mission is to foster the development of the Muslim community, interfaith relations, civic engagement, and better understanding of Islam.
