ISNA PARTNERSHIP TO BE FEATURED AT THE NATIONAL PRESS CLUB

ISNA has joined with the “Uniting to Protect” campaign- a partnership of Christian, Muslim and Jewish Americans uniting against criminal terrorists’ violence.

The partnership will be formalized on November 30, 2007 at the National Press Club Speakers Luncheon. The Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA) will present the 2007 Fatwa, or religious edict, to representatives of the American people and religious communities providing the first public partnership of the major religions against criminal terrorists.

ISNA President Ingrid Mattson, Cardinal Theodore McCarrick formerly of the Archdiocese of Washington DC, and Jewish Rabbi Jack A. Luxemberg of Beth Arni, Beltsville, MD and former President of Jewish Community Relations Council of Washington DC, will respond to the Fatwa in a Proclamation of Thanksgiving welcoming the Muslim action and pledging to work together to make America inhospitable to terrorists.  Along with these prominent religious leaders the panel will also welcome National Press Club President Jerry Zremski and the Dean of the National Cathedral Mr. Samuel L. Lloyd III.  Dr. Ingrid Mattson and key participants will also make remarks and take questions from the audience and the media.

“The primary objective of the ‘Uniting to Protect’ campaign is to help guard Americans from terrorism and its devastating consequences,” said Dr. Sayyid Syeed, ISNA Office of Interfaith and Community Alliances. “The long term gain will be the building of trust among individuals of different religious and ethnic traditions with a focus on the common ground we have in the love of our nation and the desire to protect our people.”
