ISNA Condemns Violence in France

November 9, 2005

Plainfield, Indiana – ISNA condemns the continuing violence and destruction in France and calls for an immediate end to this senseless rioting. Such actions are condemned by Islam, as are all such acts of chaos, destruction of other's property, and attacks on innocent citizens. While the motivation behind such acts are primarily related to discrimination and unemployment, ISNA commends the position of local Muslim organizations who have called for calm, and supports the recent fatwa or religious edict by the Union of French Islamic Organizations (UOIF) which cited the Qur'an and prophetic traditions to condemn the rioting and destruction and prohibited Muslims from participating in such acts. We pray for the return of calm and the peaceful resolution of this unfortunate situation.
