ISNA Hosts one of Five Interfaith Thanksgiving Services to Feed the Hungry
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Source: ISNA
(Plainfield,IN – November 11, 2009) Diverse religious congregations from across the city of Indianapolis will hold five Interfaith Thanksgiving Services, coming together to address hunger and provide support for families who do not have the luxury of a bountiful Thanksgiving.
Two services will be held on Monday, November 25, two on Tuesday, November 24, and one on Wednesday, November 25 (see schedule below). An offering will be received at each service for the Interfaith Hunger Initiative.
All of our faith traditions call us to feed the hungry. Through the Interfaith Hunger Initiative, congregations come together to do much more as partners than they can alone. There is sufficient food to go around and yet each day around the world sixteen thousand children die of hunger and related causes and here at home eighteen thousand are routinely hungry in our own community. “Taking care of the hungry and downtrodden is most basic duty of those who are endowed with abundance of provisions,” says Louay Safi whose organization, the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), hosts one of the five services.
With Indianapolis religious organizations are coming together to end child hunger, enriching lives and building bridges of understanding that strengthen our city. "We're excited that this year we have expanded the interfaith Thanksgiving services so that they fan across the city and are accessible no matter where you live," says Dave Miner, Executive Director of IHI. "Hunger touches every corner of our community and world, and these services reflect the spread of this movement and our determination to come together -- no matter how far apart we may physically be -- to feed bodies and souls."
Everyone is invited to attend any of the services, regardless of religious affiliation. In addition to an offering for IHI, food donations for Gleaners Food Bank will also be accepted.
