ISNA Convention Women’s Session Spotlighted

Source: ISNA

Numerous sessions held during the 47th Annual ISNA Convention have gained much widespread positive attention, both by convention attendees and media observers. One such session included the stories of four empowering Muslim women who captivated convention attendees this past July 4th weekend.

Discussions of Debbie Almontaser, Laila Mohammed, Robina Niaz, and Rashida Tlaib during the session “Standing Strong: Women Creating Legacy Communities” were highlighted in the State Department’s Bureau of International Information Programs (IIP) website www.america.gov, which engages international audiences on issues of foreign policy, society and values to help create an environment receptive to U.S. national interests.

The article illustrated the journeys and initiatives of the four women — an educator, a politician, a publisher and a social worker—while accenting their struggles and triumphs on their path towards becoming prominent Muslim leaders in their communities.

During the session, the women eloquently stressed the importance of perseverance and community engagement in their speeches, while encouraging Muslim women to be active role models in their communities as they achieve their goals.

The session was a popular favorite at the convention this year with hundreds in attendance.
