INTERFAITH ORGANIZING APPRENTICESHIP INITIATIVE
Job Posting: Director, of Interfaith Organizing Apprenticeship Initiative
The Director will be responsible for all aspects of the apprenticeship. The initiative, which will be launched in the fall of 2009, will train and develop skillful organizers with capacity to work across faith lines to build power for justice.
The Program: Apprentices will receive leadership training and engage in graduate level course study in the theology of justice across faith traditions. Through training and a paid six-month placement, with master organizers at top organizing groups across the country, apprentices will deepen their grounding in their own and other faith traditions. A secondary outcome of this initiative, but equally critical, will be the creation of a leadership recruitment pipeline across faith communities and institutions. Recruitment partners will identify and recruit new talent as well as promote the field of organizing as a viable career in faith communities. The first apprentice cohort is expected to be placed by April 2010, and will include 12 - 15 Apprentices.
The Initiative is an interfaith partnership and will be housed at the Jewish Funds for Justice.
The Director’s responsibilities: - Build out recruitment pipeline;
- Shape and drive recruitment, selection, and placement process;
- Manage communications with funders and Apprenticeship advisory team;
- Develop and strengthen relationships with organizing groups and denominational partners; and
- Coordinate training, mentorship, and all logistical/administrative aspects of work.
Qualifications:- 5+ years of leadership development experience;
- Experience identifying and developing talent;
- Project management experience;
- Excellent writing and communications skills;
- Some knowledge of and/or experience in community organizing;
- Experience working with a range of diverse faith communities; and
- Comfortable working with and leading a team of professionals.
